Chelsea Flower Show 2025: Themes again included relaxation and healing in the garden, as well as the power of nature and its materials

The Chelsea Flower Show takes place annually in London and highlights current trends in gardens and plants. Natural materials have been the focus of the 4.5-hectare site for several years; natural stone, although only marginally featured, is being increasingly used by garden designers. For the huge show, they are designing the usual plant splendor known from similar events, but are also focusing on modern themes, such as balcony- or container gardens.
Social trends were also evident at the show in 2025 (May 20 – 24): The show gardens, which have only 19 days to set up, will be reused and reconstructed elsewhere after the event. The organizer, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), thus underscores its commitment to finding answers to current questions beyond the floral splendor.
For the first time this year, seaweed was used in a project. This highlights the current issue of ocean conservation.
We show that project below as well as other show gardens in which stone played more than just a standard role.
Running water appeared as an element of relaxation in many projects. In some cases, small streams with gradients were recreated, while in others, the designers let it trickle down from stone basins.
Three comments:
* While wood and rammed earth were used extensively in garden houses, for example, there was no such project using solid stone or stone bricks;
* The Farewell Flowers Directory presented efforts to move away from plastic flowers in cemeteries;
* The “Dog Garden“ was a highlight among visitors.
